3.2.7 Twine, cotton, seine. The cotton seine twine shall conform to size number 120 of
A-A-2917.
3.2.8 Buckle, tongueless, 2-bar. The buckles shall conform to type II, style 1, class 1 of
MIL-B-543.
3.2.9 Clip, end, strap. The end clips shall conform to type I, class 1, size 1-inch of MIL-C-496.
3.2.10 Fasteners, snap. The snap fasteners shall conform to style 1, finish 2, regular prong socket
and stud, eyelet base with washer, size 1; and style 2, finish 2, button, 24 line size 1, of MIL-F-
10884.
3.2.11 Ring, dee. The dee ring shall conform to configuration K, class 1 or 2, size 1-inch of
MIL-R-3390.
3.3 Construction. The construction of the case and bags for rings and grommets shall conform to
the drawings listed in section 2 and as specified herein.
3.3.1 Stitching.
3.3.1.1 Types of stitching. All stitch types shall conform to ASTM D 6193 as follows:
For all stitching except
Type 301, 6 to 8
overedge stitching
stitches per inch
For overedge stitching
Type 304, 14 to 16
stitches per inch;
types 502, 504, or 505,
6 to 8 stitches per inch
3.3.1.2 Thread breaks. Thread breaks in stitching shall be overstitched not less than 1 inch at
each break on stitch type 301 and not less than ¾ inch at each break on stitch types 304, 503, 504
or 505. Thread breaks noted during inspection shall be repaired by starting the overstitching at
least 1 inch before the break and ending it at least 1 inch beyond the break. The ends of repair
stitching are not required to be backstitched.
3.3.1.3 Stitching ends. The ends of type 301 stitching shall be overstitched not less than 1 inch
except where ends are turned under in a hem or held down by other stitching. Where 301
stitching is performed automatically on stitch patterns such as box, box with cross-stitch, "W"
stitching or straight line tacking , at least 3 or more tying, overlapping or backstitches shall be
used to secure the ends of stitching. The ends of type 304, 503, 504 or 505 stitching shall be
firmly secured by backstitching or overstitching or by increasing the number of stitches per inch at
the ends for a minimum of ¼ inch.
