3.3.1.4 Skipped stitches. Two or more consecutively skipped stitches occurring in type 301,
304, 503, 504, or 505 stitching shall be overstitched not less than 1 inch. Skipped stitches noted
during inspection shall be repaired in the same manner as specified under thread breaks.
3.3.2 Setting of end clips. The webbing shall be shall be inserted the full depth of the clip. Clips
shall be securely attached without cutting the webbing and the webbing shall lie flat at the point of
entrance.
3.3.3 Setting of snap fasteners.
3.3.3.1 Style 1. The hole for the male part of the snap fastener shall be formed when the fastener
is driven into the material. The hole punched before insertion of the female part of the fastener
shall be no larger than that made by a standard number 10 round drive punch (5/16 inch diameter
hole). Fasteners shall be securely clinched. Not more than one score or split shall be allowed on
the roll of the eyelet base of the stud.
3.3.3.2 Style 2. When a hole is punched before insertion of the male or female part of the
fastener it shall be smaller than the outside diameter of the fastener tube so that the tube must be
forced through the hole. Fasteners shall be securely clinched. Not more than one score or split
shall be allowed on the roll of the eyelet of either male or female half of the fastener.
3.4 Marking. Identification marking shall be applied in the location shown on the drawing and
shall conform to type IV, class 5 of DDD-L-20. The letters " U.S." , the item name, list of
contents, pocket numbers and bag markings shall be located and applied in the size characters
indicated on the drawings and shall conform to type IV, class 9 of DDD-L-20. Fastness of class 9
marking shall be as specified for the class 5 labels.
3.5 Workmanship. Cloth components shall be clean and free of holes, cuts, tears or cloth defects
such as multiple floats or broken or missing yarns. Webbing and tape shall not have frayed or
scalloped edges. Thread tension shall be maintained so that there will be no loose stitching and
seam allowances shall be maintained with seams properly sewed so that no runoffs, twists, pleats
or open seams shall result. Care shall be taken in sewing to see that no needle chews occur. All
thread ends shall be trimmed to ½ inch or less. Metal components shall be free of burrs, sharp
edges, or corroded areas and shall not be broken or malformed. The end item shall conform to
the quality of product established by this specification.
4. VERIFICATION
4.1 Responsibility for dimensional requirements. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or
purchase order, the contractor is responsible for ensuring that all specified dimensions in the
applicable drawings have been met. When dimensions cannot be examined on the end item,
inspection shall be made at any point, or at all points in the manufacturing process necessary to
ensure compliance with all dimensional requirements.
4.2 Classification of inspection. The inspection requirements specified herein are classified as
